So who won? Here are some worth motioning:
- Facebook took Best Overall with Zuckerberg as Best Startup Founder. Little surprise there. Facebook is spear heading social technology along with pouring tons of refinement and usability into their product. They will remain a exciting internet real estate to beat.
- Digg boasts Best user-generated content. Digg is all about the userbase. Digg continues to add exciting new things to their business model. One of them being the new Revision3.com. I’m going to be spending allot of time there. Just to add to the Power of Digg check out the post on Charl’s Digg Experience.
- Automattic (Wordpress) and it’s CEO Toni Schneider took Most Likely to Succeed and Best Startup CEO, respectively. As I stated above, Wordpress is simply a gem when it comes to the web. As platform I have been supporting and gaining respect for, it has once again impressed me. One of my friends has even dubbed himself a “Wordpress Rockstar“. An Excellent title my good man!
- Twitter walked away with Best Mobile Startup. As far as micro-blogging goes… Twitter is the best. I’ve only recently joined, but it offers to connects people in a very unique and fun way. I’m looking forward to many more weeks of tweeting. Come follow me on twitter.
- Stumble Upon for Best Viral Marketing. Stumble Upon has only recently toggled my interest but as many people knows, Stumble Upon can bring you ALOT of traffic. I recommend you have a look. See my latest stumbles are at foxinni.stumbleupon.com.
- Kongregate slam dunks Best Time “Waister” Site. Waisting time is something everyone likes to do and Kongregate makes is very fun, and very social. It also has tons of Flash… and I love flash.
- Other winners include Meebo for Best consumer startup, Netvibes for Best International startup and Hulu for Best Video Startup.

No surprises there with the winners.. lets hope our SA Blog awards goes down a similar path
The funny thing is, Digg is actually not really ‘User Generated Content’, people only choose the titles and descriptions, the rest is the story of people on other sites.
@Charl: SABlogawards.com 2008 is gonna be pretty cool i think. Can’t wait to start some marketing for Monkeysfist.
@Jenna: True, the content might not be generated via profiles, blogs and the likes. The users are in fact the ones “submitting” content and controlling it. Thats is how Digg is generating activity and popularity, and not genuine fresh content.
Interesting blog. How did you get the tweets from twitter as you have done your tweets in the side bar? It’s neat.
I have a twitter feed set-up using the twitter-tools plugin. It creates a daily log of twitters and then it shows up in my recent post widget. I may want to exclude these from showing in the recent post or I need to do what you have done.
