Meeting Matt and Warwick from Automattic

Big thanks to the guys from WordCamp SA for organizing the event. Two of the heavy weights over at Automattic climbed on a plane and took the long journey down to South Africa to come meet the passionate Wordpress users.

The event was filled with speakers talking about all thing Wordpress, from making money with Wordpress to how they have used Wordpress in wonderful and imaginative ways. Among them was Adii (Woothemes.com ), Vincent Maher (M&G ) and Justin Hartman (The Times ).

Soon after Matt was talking about how Wordpress.com has turned into a business and the ways they turn profit in an open source realm. After which I had to stand in somewhat of a que to share an audience with the man of the hour. Matt came across very humble and was eager to give advice to some burning questions. A true legend in my eyes.

Then I managed to squeeze some time in with Warwick Poole . We talked about the massive system he has to stay on top of at Wordpress.com. We also talked about how the work flow works over at Automattic.

It ended up being a great day for meeting new people and finding out more about Wordpress. Here are some pics of me and Matt and Warwick… proof I guess. Damn I look scruffy.

Amsterdam, totsiens

Amsterdam, totsiens
I loved Amsterdam. I can do nothing but rave about how great it is. I most likely should be complaining about how expensive or how cold the weather was, but all I want to do is revisit this wonderful city with it’s whirling bikes and cobbled alley ways. One thing I really loved about Amsterdam was [...] read more

Torchlight, Diablo 3 killer?

Torchlight, Diablo 3 killer?
I’m making a ridiculous statement right out the gates and oddly so because Diablo 3 has not even been released yet. Why say it’s a killer? That’s because Torchlight is exactly what you’d expect the next Diablo to be like. From the start Torchlight submerges you in a neat new world, instantly throwing you into the [...] read more

Rome, Florence, Rome

Rome, Florence, Rome
Booked in the spur of the moment, we were on our way to a four nights stay in Italy. Two nights in Rome and two nights in Florence separated by a four hour train journey. Italy is an incredibly beautiful part of the world with amazing culture, breathtaking monuments and ridiculous traffic. For the backpacking traveler, [...] read more

A night in Betties Bay

A night in Betties Bay
Nils and Christi, my “doctor friends”, invited me along for a night with the old gang for a braai, two nights before I had to leave for Ireland. The next morning we went for a dive to take out crayfish. Sadly I don’t have any photos of myself in the Neoprene cladding. Please invite me again, [...] read more

The Killers, Cape Town, 2009
As promised, I will be sharing some of the love The Killers showed the attendees of yesterdays concert. Any chance we as Cape Townians get to go to a big concert, we leap at the opportunity. This was the case with The Killers live in concert, churning out about 20 000, individuals ready for big sound [...] read more

An emotional moment comes as I finally polish up this LONG overdue theme for my site. Many things can attribute to this theme taking well over 6 month to complete. Among those are the love/hate relationship I have with design, the lack of focus and the need to get everything perfect. My site is not perfect. [...] read more

District 9 out of 9

District 9 out of 9
This past week I went to go see District 9 again. The make of any good movie is one that you can watch twice in quick succession only to appreciate it even more. The subtle South African flavor coupled with a unique story, told in an uncanny documentary style fashion made for an enjoyable second [...] read more
